MOYA

2012 was a big year for 21 year old Moya. She started the year with a beautiful cover of  ’I'm Losing More Than I’ll Ever Have’ and ended it with ‘Making Me Fall’  - A Listed for 3 weeks on BBC Radio 2.  Hailed by Perez Hilton as “A female Bruno Mars,” tipped by Fearne Cotton on her Radio One show and described as “Provocative, stylish and sassy” by The Daily Mirror – we’re expecting big things for Moya in 2013. Her stunning new single ‘A Little More Love’  is due out early next year, but in the mean time here’s ‘Making Me Fall’

DARYL HALL AND RUMER

Our round up of 2012 wouldn’t be complete without mentioning the legend that is Daryl Hall. A real return to form this year with his brand new studio album, ‘Laughing Down Crying,’ which won him praise everywhere from the Telegraph, Times and Q Magazine. There was the sold out gig at Shepherd’s Bush too, which featured guest appearances from both KT Tunstall and Rumer. The latter of which also appeared on Daryl’s now famous ‘Live From Daryl’s House. Here’ s our favourite from that session, Daryl and Rumer singing Hall & Oates classic, ‘Can’t Go For That.’

GABBY YOUNG & OTHER ANIMALS

A great year for Gabby Young, who had lots of acclaim for her album ‘The Band Called Out For More.’ Glowing reviews everywhere from The Guardian, FT, Clash and the Fly. ‘Walk Away’ was one of our favourite tracks off the album, and also the second single, released back in October. Check out Gabby and her dad here, and expect to be hearing a lot more from her and the Animals in 2013

ANJA MCCLOSKEY

We’ve worked with Anja throughout the year, and pleased to see her music finally getting the recognition it deserves. Q likened her to “A Romany gypsy cabaret show” whilst This Is Fake DIY was “Taken aback by the sheer level of beauty.” It’s hard to pick a favourite from Anja, but we’d suggest starting with the lovely ‘Italian Song’:

SCARLETTE FEVER

Another One to Watch for 2013, Scarlette Fever’s debut single ‘Crash & Burn’ hit the BBC Radio 2′s B-list last year in the UK, and reached #2 on the Billboard Breakout Club Chart in the USA. This year she followed it with another Radio 2 B-list for widescreen ballad ‘Elated,’ along with national press acclaim.  She’s currently in the studio recording new material with Julian Emery (Lissie, McFly, Newton Faulkner) and has spent the latter half of this year performing, writing and recording in the US.

Here’s one of our favourites from this year:  ‘Hour Of Sunshine’

Following their sold out album launch at London’s Scala this summer, Gabby Young And Other Animals have confirmed they are returning to the capital to headline Bush Hall, in Shepherds Bush on Thursday 15th November.

“We’re so excited to play at Bush Hall again,” says Gabby. “We wanted to play somewhere beautiful and in fitting with the band and music so this stunning old dance hall is perfect.”

“ We’ve been touring a lot this year and we decided to strip away the guest performers that London audiences have seen in the past few years, which gives the animals a chance to shine. We can’t wait to see our wonderfully loyal London fans there – we have some special things planned for this one.”

This Monday, Gabby Young And Other Animals release their new single ‘Walk Away’ from their highly acclaimed second album, ‘The Band Called Out For More’.

‘Walk Away’, Gabby’s first song written on piano, builds to a celebratory horn-infused climax: ‘I woke up one morning at 6am,’ she says, ‘and this came out, lyrics and all, in 5 minutes. It was something I really needed to say to my Dad.’ It’s very different from last single ‘In Your Head’ which allowed fans to connect with the upbeat party tempo of the first album ‘We’re All In This Together.’

And don’t miss the heart-wrenching new video, directed by Gabby’s partner and producer, Stephen Ellis. Filmed on location in the depths of Hampstead Heath, the video features Gabby’s actual father, Edward, alongside a captivating performance from Gabby. “I wanted to make a real and emotional video,” says Gabby. “This song is a message for my Dad and I am so pleased that he could be in it. I found the whole experience of shooting and now watching it back very moving.

Gabby’s first album ‘We’re all In This Together’ was released in 2010 receiving positive write-ups by many of the UK’s major newspapers, including The Guardian, The Sunday Times and the London Evening Standard, with The Guardian even naming the band in their “Anti-tips for 2010: the acts who deserve to be heard.’

The Guardian June 8

With a list of accolades as long as a pair of stripey tights, Gabby Young And Other Animals, (or the “World’s Finest Purveyors of Circus Swing” – Clive Anderson, Loose Ends, R4) released their highly anticipated second album, ‘The Band Called Out For More’ yesterday.

Time Out, June 7

The press have once again been raving, with the Guardian and Mirror both awarding it 4 stars. And to celebrate, the band headline the Scala tomorrow night – and there are a handful of tickets left. Read our review of Gabby’s recent gig at iTunes Covent Garden here.

The Mirror, June 8

Lead single ‘In Your Head’, also out June 11, allows fans to connect with the upbeat party tempo of the first album ‘We’re All In This Together.’

Its witty animated interactive promo video, in which you can ‘choose’ which animal to be saved from an evil ringmaster, was produced by Gabby’s friend Georgina Hurcombe (Lovelove Films).

So is it all a metaphor for music industry? ‘Perhaps,’ sighs Gabby, with a smile. Make your own mind up by checking it out here:

Written by Gabby and her partner Stephen Ellis, who also produces, the new album is a giant sonic step forward: its colourful avant-garde sound exudes the best bits of music hall, burlesque, 1920’s flapper music and torch songs.

‘My sound’s matured,’ she says. ‘I never say it’s different but I’ve honed my craft. I’m very happy and settled where I wasn’t before.’

Gabby Young’s twisting roots have carried her and that stunning voice from her native Wiltshire around the UK to land with a bang at the centre of London’s music scene. In 2008 she formed the 8-piece band that complete the magical musical fairground we know today.

Young’s avant-garde fusion of globally-influenced folk combines Balkan brass, jazz and swing to produce what has been affectionately dubbed Circus Swing by those who realised there was no existing genre to encompass Young’s sound.

First album ‘We’re all In This Together’ received positive write-ups by many of the UK’s major newspapers, including The Guardian, The Sunday Times and the London Evening Standard.
