Producer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Francis Neve is back on December 5 with a 4 track EP. Lead single ‘Dance Around The Fire’ is backed by ‘I Lie’, and two new remixes of ‘Brian’s Drying Up’, by hotly-tipped Bangatang and DJ Ruckspin respectively. Watch the ace promo for ‘Dance’ above.
The EP is his first release since the BBC 6 Breakfast Record Of The Week ‘I Won’t Make You Better’, the last lifted from critically acclaimed debut album ‘The Second Time We First Met.’
Neve has been listening to artists like The Soft Moon, Wild Nothing and Goldffinch – and it shows. Even better, ‘Dance Around The Fire’ sees him move into more upbeat, celebratory territory.
‘I’ve got a lot more positive energy at the moment and it’s coming through in my music,’ he says.
It was borne out of what Neve terms ‘the most unusual summer we’ve had in London.’ He continues: ‘But the sentiment is a really positive one … The song is trying to focus on the good things in life and how we treat each other rather than the bad that we always hear about in the news. Its hopeful.’
The B-side showcases the icy electronics of the vocoder-driven ‘I Lie,’ whilst the package is completed by two excellent remixes of previous single ‘Brian’s Drying Up,’ the first a house re-rub by hotly-tipped Bangatang, and the second a 2-step tech-house reworking by DJ Ruckspin. Francis has been a very busy boy so far in 2011: he’s co-produced and mixed for Babeshadow on Mairead Nash’s label Luv Luv Luv. He’s also recently been co writing tunes with Chris Hayden (Florence & The Machine) – and has been recording and producing a string of tracks for none other than Pixie Geldoff. He’s also about to do a remix for hotly-tipped new band Echotape.

The debut album ‘The Second Time We First Met,’ a collection of emotive lo-fi pop, narrating the lifespan of a relationship, was released last year, winning over reels of acclaim from the likes of Clash, Stereoboard and This Is Fake DIY, whilst the single ‘Brian’s Drying Up’ received plays on BBC 6Music. Francis and band have also been heralded for their enthralling live shows, including two spots at Gill Mill’s Best of Myspace nights and BBC6’s Chris Hawkin’s new band night at Catch.

EMMS Publicity reaches the grand old age of 10 in early October and, to kick off our celebrations, we’re giving away a very special one-off remix of Francis Neve’s classic first single ‘Brian’s Drying Up’ – by rising (self-proclaimed) “goodstep” star Bangatang.
Yes you’ll be able to download the remix ABSOLUTELY FREE from our Soundcloud for 24 hours on Monday October 3. But first, have a sneak preview here:
After Tuesday October 4, the remix will only again be available (for dollar) as part of Francis Neve’s forthcoming Dance Around The Fires EP (released late November). So grab it while you can!
Oh, and because it’s our 10th birthday, indulge us, if you will, as we unveil 10 fascinating facts about EMMS… *deep breath*
1. The company was established in 2001 by the then 26 year old Stephen Emms. First clients? Dance icons-du-jour Paul Oakenfold, Dave Pearce and Timo Maas.
2. We launched debut releases by Lethal Bizzle, David Guetta, Jay Sean, Eric Prydz – and, in 2006, a rather lovely 19 year old called Florence Welch.
3. Other international stars we’ve worked with include Sia, Kosheen, Jill Scott, Chrissie Hynde, Fergie, Hall & Oates, Pete Tong and Carl Cox.
4. Not to mention dozens of labels and brands, including One Little Indian, BMG, Sony, Ministry Of Sound, Three Six Zero Group, Southern Fried and Rob Da Bank’s Sunday Best.
5. In 2007 EMMS Publicity was the sole UK PR company selected to feature in the best-selling DIY manual “The Guerilla Guide to the Music Business”…
6. …and in 2011 we launched our artist management division, imaginitively titled EMMS Artist Management
7. We like food too. And therefore work with the odd restaurant or two.
8. We like a tipple – in moderation, of course – and have launched or worked with lots of boozy venues like KOKO, Barrio, Guanabara, Charlotte Street Blues.
9. In addition to his PR responsibilities, Stephen also writes about the travel & the arts in The Guardian and elsewhere.
10. In addition to his PR responsibilities, account director Steve Rose is a dab hand at the banjo – and, as you can see above, draws a pretty impressive birthday cake.

Francis Neve has just emailed us the youtube link to new single, ‘I Won’t Make You Better’, and we think it is simply beautiful. Blink and it could be directed by Terry Gilliam. Blink again and it could be the offspring of early Elbow and Peter Gabriel’s Sledgehammer. In fact, it was conceived and filmed by their mate, the rather talented Brad Verlander. Respect most certainly due.
Things are hotting up for the critically acclaimed band, with some solid rotation on BBC 6 Music – it was recently Breakfast Single Of The Week – plus lots of press about to hit, including an interview with Clash.

Pray, admire this iconic new shot of a levitating Francis Neve, just released to accompany the very big new radio version of album highlight 'I Won't Make You Better' (out July 4 on the wunderkind's own label). The image was taken by talented young photographer Hayley Graves, who Francis describes as "awesome, raw, unspoiled and instinctive". And we couldn't agree more.
As for the music, well, hang on to your lobes because this one's a belter. Powered by an infectious Bedouin blues-inspired guitar hook, ‘I Won’t Make You Better’ fuses subtle folk riffs, a tribal chant and Francis’ distinctive vocals to create his most soulful, bittersweet single to date. Already a firm live favourite – and closing track – the band have slowly been developing it since their first ever gig last September. Listen here.
“The hooks in this new version are so much stronger,” says Francis. “Since we began playing it live we’ve been adding some extra parts like the new piano melody, which really worked. We wanted it to feel raw and I hope we managed to capture that by re-recording it live with the band."

Essex born, singer-songwriter Francis Neve has confirmed more London live shows for 2011. Francis and band will be taking to the stage at the East End’s Strong Rooms on February 9, High Street Kensington’s newest live venue, AAA on February 19th, the Best of Myspace night at the Bull & Gate on March 2nd and Camden’s legendary Dublin Castle on March 7. More dates to be announced.
Francis will be performing new material, plus music from his critically acclaimed debut album, The Second Time We First Met, released late last year – a mini album of subtly infectious emotive pop, which won over the likes of Clash, Music Week, Bearded, This is Fake DIY and For Folks Sake.
The first single taken from the album, Brian’s Drying Up was accompanied by a stunning lo-fi video which attracted a lot attention online.
