MOYA

2012 was a big year for 21 year old Moya. She started the year with a beautiful cover of  ’I'm Losing More Than I’ll Ever Have’ and ended it with ‘Making Me Fall’  - A Listed for 3 weeks on BBC Radio 2.  Hailed by Perez Hilton as “A female Bruno Mars,” tipped by Fearne Cotton on her Radio One show and described as “Provocative, stylish and sassy” by The Daily Mirror – we’re expecting big things for Moya in 2013. Her stunning new single ‘A Little More Love’  is due out early next year, but in the mean time here’s ‘Making Me Fall’

DARYL HALL AND RUMER

Our round up of 2012 wouldn’t be complete without mentioning the legend that is Daryl Hall. A real return to form this year with his brand new studio album, ‘Laughing Down Crying,’ which won him praise everywhere from the Telegraph, Times and Q Magazine. There was the sold out gig at Shepherd’s Bush too, which featured guest appearances from both KT Tunstall and Rumer. The latter of which also appeared on Daryl’s now famous ‘Live From Daryl’s House. Here’ s our favourite from that session, Daryl and Rumer singing Hall & Oates classic, ‘Can’t Go For That.’

GABBY YOUNG & OTHER ANIMALS

A great year for Gabby Young, who had lots of acclaim for her album ‘The Band Called Out For More.’ Glowing reviews everywhere from The Guardian, FT, Clash and the Fly. ‘Walk Away’ was one of our favourite tracks off the album, and also the second single, released back in October. Check out Gabby and her dad here, and expect to be hearing a lot more from her and the Animals in 2013

ANJA MCCLOSKEY

We’ve worked with Anja throughout the year, and pleased to see her music finally getting the recognition it deserves. Q likened her to “A Romany gypsy cabaret show” whilst This Is Fake DIY was “Taken aback by the sheer level of beauty.” It’s hard to pick a favourite from Anja, but we’d suggest starting with the lovely ‘Italian Song’:

SCARLETTE FEVER

Another One to Watch for 2013, Scarlette Fever’s debut single ‘Crash & Burn’ hit the BBC Radio 2′s B-list last year in the UK, and reached #2 on the Billboard Breakout Club Chart in the USA. This year she followed it with another Radio 2 B-list for widescreen ballad ‘Elated,’ along with national press acclaim.  She’s currently in the studio recording new material with Julian Emery (Lissie, McFly, Newton Faulkner) and has spent the latter half of this year performing, writing and recording in the US.

Here’s one of our favourites from this year:  ‘Hour Of Sunshine’

Following their sensational performance at Shepherd’s Bush Empire earlier this month, Daryl Hall and Rumer team up again on a six-song set which includes Daryl Hall & John Oates hits “Sara Smile” and “I Can’t Go for That (No Can Do),” covers of Gil Scott-Heron and Philly soul legend William DeVaughn“Be Thankful for What You Got.”

Rumer says: “When I met Daryl, I was literally stunned. I never really understood what ‘being in the presence of greatness’ actually meant until I was standing in a room, playing music with Daryl and his amazing band.”

In addition to the six-song set will the Atlantic Records singer/songwriter perform two songs from her acclaimed debut, Seasons of My Soul in “Slow” and “Take Me As I Am.

“His musical presence is so incredible, that l kept thinking, ‘How did I get in here?” Rumer says. “Daryl Hall is a genius, a living legend who continues to write and record amazing music. He told me at dinner that his aim in life was to ‘blow people away.’ Now I know what that feels like.”

Daryl was suitably impressed with the singer/songwriter. “Since having her on the show, I have spent some time with Rumer, and we have quickly become friends. She is an interesting and impressive combination of spirituality and down-to-earth ‘centeredness’
that gives her a unique perspective on what we all do as musicians and communicators.  I think her seemingly ‘smooth’ style frames a very passionate view toward life.  More power to her.”

Live from Daryl’s House is being shown weekly in over 80% of U.S. homes in the nation’s top 200 media markets, as well as all of the top 10, including New York (WPIX), L.A. (KTLA), Chicago (WGN), Dallas (KDAF) and Houston (KIAH). The show has also cleared in such key markets as Philadelphia (CBS-owned KYW), Boston (KBIN) and Atlanta (WATL), as well as a number of NBC, Fox and CBS-owned affiliates across the country.

Live From Darryl’s House, featuring Rumer, will go live on August 15th.

Last night the legendary Daryl Hall performed to a sold-out audience at Shepherd’s Bush Empire with special guest appearances from KT Tunstall and Rumer.

With a backdrop straight from his hit web television show, Live From Daryl’s House, he took to the stage to a roar of applause. The audience clapped along appreciatively as he played a mix of classics ‘Man Eater’, ‘Private Eyes’ and ‘Out of Touch’, along with tracks from his new album ‘Laughing Down Crying’

Scottish singer songwriter KT Tunstall joined Daryl for ‘If Only’ and ‘Black Horse and the Cherry Tree’. She was clearly delighted to be performing with one of her heroes, and couldn’t resist hugging him before leaving the stage for Rumer to come on.

Slowing things down, Rumer and Daryl performed ‘Slow’ and ‘Sara Smile’. In a quick break between songs, Daryl was inundated with requests from all corners of the room, to which he replied “I’ll play all of them!”

After ‘Can’t Go For That’, featuring an impressive five minute long saxophone solo, the band briefly exited the stage, returning with Tunstall and Rumer for ‘Rich Girl’ and ‘You Make My Dreams’.

As the audience filtered out, it was clear from the look on their faces that Daryl is still a man on the top of his game, with a wealth of performing experience to draw from.

In advance of his intimate shows at London’s Shepherd’s Bush Empire on July 12 and the Latitude Festival (July 14), legendary singer-songwriter Daryl Hall is set to release his fifth solo studio album, Laughing Down Crying, on July 9 (Verve Forecast).

With his iconic soulful vocals, Hall’s newest collection feels fresh and current while still maintaining his signature style and songwriting prowess. Hall was joined in the studio by co-producers Greg Bieck (Jennifer Lopez, Destiny’s Child, Ricky Martin) and Paul Pesco for the making of this album.

Powerhouse producer, the late T-Bone Wolk (Billy Joel, Carly Simon, Elvis Costello) lent his expertise on stand-out tracks “Lifetime of Love,” “Wrong Side of History” and “Problem With You.” This album serves as the last project they worked on together after a prolific 30-year relationship.

The soulful ‘Talking to You’ is the lead single, out June 25. Here he is performing it on his hit monthly show Live From Daryl’s House:

While Daryl Hall is adored for his work in Hall and Oates and already illustrious solo career, he has recently been making waves as a “tastemaker” for up-and-coming talent as host and Executive Producer of his smash hit, web television series Live From Daryl’s House. He has been giving artists like Fitz and the Tantrums and Company of Thieves a chance to perform in front of national audiences, often for the first time.

On the programme, which won the 2010 WEBBY Award in the Variety category, Hall seeks out new and breaking talent and invites them to his home in Millerton, NY. One of the most unlikely collaborations that stemmed from his show was his pairing up with electro-funk duo Chromeo for a standout performance at Bonnaroo in 2010. Since its inception in late 2007, Live From Daryl’s House has since gained national in the US too.

For ‘An Evening With Daryl Hall’ at London’s Shepherd’s Bush Empire, Daryl will perform songs from the new album as well as music from Hall & Oates, the “rock and soul” duo he founded with John Oates . The pair is recognized as the “Number One Selling Duo” in music history by the Recording Industry Association of America, a title they still hold today. Hall, an inductee to the Songwriters Hall of Fame, penned six songs that reached No. 1 on the Billboard charts, including such classics as “Rich Girl” and “I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do)” and another five tunes that registered in the Top 10. Hall’s solo career began in the ’70s and he has released a handful of critically acclaimed albums in that time: Sacred Songs in 1980; Three Hearts in the Happy Ending Machine in 1986 (which spawned the No. 5 Billboard chart hit “Dreamtime”); Soul Alone in 1993; and Can’t Stop Dreaming in 1996.

With such an incredible legacy behind him and an exciting platform from which to move forward, the future is limitless for Daryl Hall. There are many new artists, some of whom he has championed on his show, who would attribute their work to the influence of the iconic songwriting and melodies that have solidified Hall as one of the most important artists in musical history. Laughing Down Crying will surely hit home with all of his loyal fans who have been waiting over a decade for his next solo effort.
